Overview
Established in 1963, the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) is a nonprofit trade association that consists of more than 60,000 professional members from all spheres of the kitchen and bathroom remodeling industry. The association’s stated mission is to enhance the success and excellence of its members, promote professionalism and ethical business practices, and provide leadership and direction for the kitchen and bathroom industry worldwide.

Programs
One of the NKBA’s top priorities is to emphasize continuing education and career development among industry professionals. One of the principal ways in which it does this is through its certification program, which enables professionals to become qualified as an Associate, Certified, or Certified Master Kitchen or Bath Designer (upon meeting the organization’s established criteria). The association also offers supplemental education courses online, as well as accredited college programs for students planning to enter the kitchen and bathroom industry.

Resources
The NKBA prides itself on being a valuable resource for industry professionals and consumers alike. Its members have full access to its comprehensive Professional Resource Library and receive its quarterly magazine. For consumers, the NKBA not only showcases certified designers and their work, it also offers numerous online resources that include free planning guides, remodeling tips, product information, a consumer newsletter and a complete glossary of design terms.

Events
The NKBA’s annual Kitchen & Bath Industry Show is the largest show of its kind worldwide. Every year, the event brings hundreds of exhibitors together to showcase the latest ideas, products and services to more than 50,000 attendees.

Commitment to sustainability
In light of its aim to promote excellence, the NKBA has become a driving force behind the development of sustainable practices in the remodeling industry. By expanding its number of related educational programs, as well as helping both consumers and industry professionals gain a greater awareness of Green products and practices, the NKBA hopes to further promote an environmentally-centered consciousness throughout the industry.
